Second Opinions on Lung and Breathing Diagnoses

When a second opinion can help

Dr. Kupferberg gives second opinions to patients aged 16 and over. A second opinion may be worth considering when:

• You have a new diagnosis, such as asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis or sleep apnea, and want to be sure of it
• Symptoms such as cough or shortness of breath continue despite treatment
• You are weighing a treatment that has been recommended to you
• You would like your results explained in English or French
• A doctor abroad needs a report in English

In person or by video

You can have your second opinion in person, at Wolfson Medical Center, Jerusalem, or at the Efrat clinic, or by video visit. A video visit can be easier if it is hard for you to get to a clinic.

If Dr. Kupferberg thinks a breathing test such as spirometry would help, it is done in the clinic and charged in addition to the consultation.

What to bring

The fuller the picture, the more useful the review. If you can, bring these to your visit, or have them ready for a video visit:

• Letters and summaries from your doctors and any hospital stays
• Imaging reports, such as chest X-ray or CT reports
• Test results, such as breathing tests and blood tests
• A list of your current medications and doses, including inhalers
• Your questions, written down

How the review works

Dr. Kupferberg goes through your records, asks about your history and symptoms and, at an in-person visit, examines you. He then explains his assessment in plain language: whether he agrees with the diagnosis and treatment plan, whether he would suggest any changes, and whether further tests could help.

A second opinion works alongside your current care, so keep following your treatment unless your doctor advises otherwise. You can share the findings with your treating doctor, and if your doctors are abroad, Dr. Kupferberg can issue a comprehensive medical report in English.
